Lyrics & Story Behind Song #7: “Love Has Got You Now”
“You’re HERE. You’re WHOLE. And LOVE….LOVE has got you now.”
By January of 2018, I had been playing with consciousness expanding tools at Faith in Wellness for about six months. I was already seeing big changes in my life. I felt more connected with my body. Instead of struggling with diet plans, I “partnered” with my body for exercise and healthier food choices. I was grateful for my body’s wisdom and signals. Emotionally, I felt stronger and more empowered. Old fears shifted into higher levels of trust in myself. Old shame was replaced with worthiness to receive and confidence in being seen. Mentally, I became aware of co-dependent patterns in my language. What I was aware of, I could shift. My habit of saying “You know” (seeking agreement) changed to “I know” (sovereignty). When I noticed I was thinking “I can’t” (giving up power) I substituted “I can” (ownership). I was also exploring new depths of feeling. When deep feelings were triggered, I learned to coach myself through “negative” ones, using decrees to shift them into what was true. Finally, I was using my power of imagination to envision living my dreams.
Even with all of that, I hadn’t fully integrated one key element at the core of all I was learning--spirituality. I had done years of self-growth work in the past that included everything from traditional talk therapy to shamanic journeys. Each tool had been helpful in its own way. Many had brought temporary or permanent life-changing breakthroughs. These tools I was using now were another great set of self-growth techniques. In fact, the combination was proving so effective, my life was changing at light speed.
In the past, I had explored many spiritual paths. Born and raised Catholic, I left that religion as a teenager. In the years that followed, I studied several traditional western and eastern faiths, as well as Native American spirituality and new age belief systems. I practiced a variety of spiritual disciplines, including thirteen years of daily meditation with a Master in India. My spiritual journey had begun as a lifelong outer-directed search for the “right” religion. Over time it had evolved into a sacred, inner knowing. Coming home to my spiritual center was a process of decades. Conscious evolution in my life was inseparable from that innate spirituality. As I applied the combination of consciousness tools Faith in Wellness offered (eye readings, decrees, deep feeling work, the power of imagination, etc.) I realized they were effective only when aligned with my deepest connection to spirituality.
Whatever your word is for it, most of us have a sense of something larger than ourselves. When we strive to evolve into our “best selves” we reach beyond our current reality for something more. Some people call that “something larger than me” God. Some call it following spirit, becoming one with the universe, or engaging the mystery. Others call it finding their higher self, their great self, their sacred self, their divinity, their inner goddess, or simply being the best person they can be. Some look for it outside themselves. Others search for it within. Whatever term you use, when we play in higher levels of consciousness, we play from a place that is infinite, expansive and connected to all things. We play from a level that is supportive, all-loving, true, beautiful and perfect. When we treat each of the “tools” we have—our bodies, our minds, our language, our breath, our feelings, our communities—as channels to this state, they all become sacred. They all become doorways to more than we ever imagined was possible. It was time for my next lesson in conscious waking up or—more accurately—my next lesson in conscious remembering.
I believe that conscious evolution requires remembering what is already true. That is, that there is nothing we need to fix about ourselves to get life right. There is nothing we must become. As we wake up, we remember with awe, the perfection, love and light we already are. We reclaim a sacred state that was and is our birthright. Whatever tools we use to kick start that process, it is the synergy of love flowing through them (and us) that makes all the difference.
Ultimately, conscious evolution boils down to embodying more and more love. Any tool I apply without that focus fails. It’s an empty technique. Trying to say “right words” without aligning with spirit, puts a bow on old speech patterns without creating anything new. It was easy to tell when I was attempting to use consciousness tools in the absence of love. First, they took more effort. Second, they became something I did by rote “with my head” rather than something I embodied by engaging the deep feelings in my heart. Third, they didn’t produce the desired outcome. If there was any degree of disconnect in heart, head, body, spirit, will or feeling, that lack showed up right away. Without my full commitment plus spiritual alignment, nothing changed. No tools worked.
Finally, conscious evolution also requires a willingness to trust and let go of our “old self” in order to become whatever our “new self” will be. The process of upgrading our consciousness is like a caterpillar’s shift into a butterfly. It is an unfolding that is magical, miraculous and mysterious. The new winged being is beyond anything a caterpillar could imagine. Our old self can’t know our new self ahead of time. So using tools for conscious evolution requires using them while also walking by faith. You must trust your own unfolding BEFORE you know what that will look like.
The song “Love Has Got You Now” grew out of this awareness of the importance of remembering and trusting spirit within. The verses and chorus came together from bits of conversations I’d had with several coaches. In one eye reading session, Faith said, “When you require more ‘juice’ behind a decree, ask a higher power. Use whatever works for you. Call on ‘Mighty I AM Presence’, ‘light and love’, ‘legions of fairies’ or ‘legions upon legions of angels’ for help.” Another coach, Honor, talked about how she imagined going direct to her “God Self” within for strength, security and confidence. She said, “You’re God’s girl. God’s got you now.” I realized the songs I had been writing up to this point involved me coaching myself by dialoging with my inner child. None were about me talking directly to spirit within me.
In “Love Has Got You Now” I heard a new voice. That inner voice was saying, “You’re safe. You’re loved. I have got you now. You’re mine. You’re fine the way you are. You’re here. You’re whole. Love has got you now.” I realized I was hearing and remembering the voice of my own sacredness. When we look into a newborn’s eyes, it is easy to see a being of precious, perfect, innocence looking back at us. When we are able to see ourselves that way and remember that, no matter how old we may be we remain love’s original newborns, we begin to reclaim a sense of “what god in us” looks like. In essence, through the lens of love, we can remember I am sacred, you are sacred, all of life is sacred.
One of the coaches at Faith in Wellness loved telling the story of how Mother Teresa would tell her helpers to bring the dying in from the streets of Calcutta, so that she could hold them and give them comfort in their last few moments on earth. Where others saw dying, unlovable, discarded, dregs of humanity, Mother Teresa saw only the face of god. As I hooked up my direct connection to spirit, I strapped in for the roller coaster ride called faith. The power of the tools I was using expanded exponentially. I looked in the mirror and knew, “Love has got you now.”
LYRICS: Love Has Got You Now
Verse 1: You’re SAFE. You’re Loved. I have got you now.
You’re MINE. You’re FINE the way you are.
Relax. We’re good. I’m standing with you now.
We’re ONE. No One can bring you harm.
Hosts of angels gathered ‘round, surround, protect us here.
Hold us in your loving arms & take away all fear.
Hosts of angels gathered close. Body, Mind and Soul.
Divine protection, be our shield. Perfection, be our goal.
Verse 2: You’re HERE. You’re WHOLE. And LOVE has got you now.
Truth, will always set us free.
Laugh and smile, as you remember how,
To BE all you were meant to BE.
Hosts of angels raise your swords. Voting victory.
Enfold us in your gentle wings, ‘til love is all we see.
Hosts of angels lift us up. We are god secured.
Sing the vision of a life with POWER in every word.
CHORUS 1: For I am God, remembering I am God.
And you are God, remembering you are God.
We are God, remembering we are God.
We are God, remembering.
CHORUS 2: Yeah, I’m God, remembering I am God.
And you are God, remembering you are God.
We are God, remembering we are God.
We are God, remembering.
You’re HERE. You’re WHOLE. And LOVE…. LOVE has got you now.
