In 2020, I fulfilled a dream to record and share my songs and the stories behind them. I established Heartstring Sounds LLC to publish and promote both.

What tugs most at my heartstrings? The little voice I believe we all have inside that reminds us what really matters. When deep feelings wake me up at 3:00 a.m., I’ve learned to reach for a note pad by my bed. That “wake up” signal usually means words or song lyrics will be pouring in. Sometimes they soothe and heal. Often they help me see myself more clearly. Occasionally they inspire and call me forward.

I believe each of us brings a gift to life only we can bring--the gift of ourselves. No one can be me but me. No one can be you but you. If each of us is an essential piece in life’s connected puzzle, it matters to the big picture that each of us answer our own heart’s call. When I choose to show up fully self-expressed, I create the life I came here to live. We can always choose to opt out and settle for less, but each time we ignore a heart signal or shut one down, I imagine a little shadow fills a spot where we were meant to sparkle and shine.

My decision to walk into a recording studio, start a business, and set up a web page at an age when most people are downsizing was me finally saying “YES” to my heart’s signal. I AM MADE NEW was my debut album. The thirteen original songs were written over a two-year period from August 2017 through August 2019, as I explored "consciousness work" at the Faith in Wellness Retreat Center in Waller, Texas. May the songs that came out of this period of my life bless you in the listening, even as they have inspired me in the writing, and our retreat community in singing along. My heartfelt thanks go out to all the incredibly talented and supportive musicians and singers who jumped in to play with me on this project!

It has never occurred to me to ask “why” I write songs. I always have. I was born a “singer/songwriter”.

I believe we rebirth ourselves again and again through whatever form our creativity takes. When I’m powerfully moved, songwriting, journaling and art are three creative channels I use to process my experiences. Through them I connect with my deepest self. Through them I also connect with others.

The greatest compliment anyone can pay a song I’ve shared is to reach for the Kleenex box. That tells me my music or lyrics just touched their hearts or helped them find part of their deepest selves reflected in mine.

May you find whatever makes your heartstrings sound and share that with the world.
