Lyrics & Story Behind Song #1: “You Were Always Meant to Shine”
“Come, child come. Let me love you.
I will hold you ‘til you mend and we’re both whole again.
Smile, breathe and believe, you were always meant to shine.”
In August of 2017 I signed up for an “eye reading” with Faith Bost, a coach at Faith in Wellness Retreat Center. As she took photos of my left and right eyes, she explained that during the reading she would ask me “yes and no” questions based on the patterns, vein structure, color and other indicators in my eyes. She described how each iris, pupil and sclera reflected a map of my physical body as well as of my subconscious programming. My left eye correlated with experiences of mom, mom’s lineage, intuition, creativity, imagination, and how I was nurtured. My right eye correlated with experiences of dad, dad’s lineage, linear thinking, and how I interacted with others. Faith told me we were about to explore belief systems my three-year-old “feeling self” programmed into my subconscious early in life to survive. She explained that most people were roughly ten percent conscious and ninety percent unconscious. The process of expanding conscious awareness required tapping into that ninety percent. My eye reading session began with two questions that went straight to my heart and brought tears to my eyes.
“Ann, do I have your permission to facilitate you?” Faith asked. “Yes,” I responded.
“Do I have your permission to see perfection?” She continued. “Yes,” I replied. My whole body flooded with relief. The idea of being seen by my outer world through a lens of perfection sounded like heaven. We started with my left eye. With each new question, Faith seemed to read not only my eye, but also my mind and soul.
At one point she asked, “Did you feel loved and supported by your mom?” “No. I didn’t get that from mom,” I answered. “And I didn’t give that to myself.”
“Your mom may not have known support,” Faith noted. “Her mom may not have known support. For many women of your generation that’s a lineage pattern. Fifty percent of your DNA is your mom’s memories and experiences. You own it now, so it’s your job to shift it. Is it easy for you to receive?” “No,” I admitted.
“Is it easy for you to support others?” she asked. “Yes,” I realized.
“Your left side and right side are connected,” she explained. “If you are always giving out and not receiving, there is an imbalance. Does your ‘higher self’ remember being supported?” “Yes,” I said.
As Faith’s questions continued, she gave me decrees to repeat daily to reprogram my subconscious belief system:
I AM MY MOTHER REMEMBERING HER SUPPORT.
I REMEMBER MY SUPPORT.
I SUPPORT ME FIRST.
I REVALUE ME.
I REMEMBER MY VALUE TO LIFE.
I RECEIVE WITH EASE.
Over the hour and a half session we explored forgotten childhood memories and uncovered wounds I wasn’t even aware I had suppressed. Questions and decrees helped me find the gift in each. Strong feelings of sadness, guilt, shame and pain came up for healing. We found thought forms like “I’m not worthy” or “it’s not safe to be seen” running unconsciously and rewrote them. At one point, Faith asked me what I would do to comfort a three-year-old who felt fearful or ashamed. I said I would hold her and rock her until she felt safe. I would reassure her, telling her she was loved, a diamond meant to shine.
I left that first eye reading invigorated by a new sense of empowerment and a new awareness of how every word I spoke had potential to change my life. Synchronicity being what it is, days later I saw a Facebook post of an anonymous quote that read, “If the words YOU spoke appeared on YOUR skin would YOU still be beautiful?” That message, combined with my eye reading experience, birthed a lullaby to my inner child. I could say the song “You Were Always Meant to Shine” resulted from that first eye reading, but I know the seeds were planted much earlier. At age three, I would have loved for my mother to hold me and whisper: “Come, child come. Let me love you. Smile, breathe, and believe, you were always meant to shine.” Unfortunately, no one ever gave mom those words. She wasn’t able to give them to me, but every time I sing this song, I give them to myself.
LYRICS: You Were Always Meant to Shine
VERSE 1: If every word you said was written on your skin, would you still be beautiful?
Every word we speak creates the world we’re in. Shouldn’t it be beautiful?
CHORUS: Come, child come. Let me love you.
I will hold you ‘til you mend -- and we’re both whole again.
SMILE, BREATHE, and BELIEVE. You were always meant to shine.
SMILE, BREATHE, and BELIEVE. You were always meant to shine, shine, shine.
VERSE 2: For every hurt you felt, find forgiveness now. Open something wonderful.
There’s a gift inside once your heart knows how to open something wonderful.
VERSE 3: So you lost your way. See it all OK. You are strong and POWERFUL.
Passion in your heart! A vision for today! So strong and POWERFUL!
CHORUS: Come, child come. Let me love you.
I will hold you ‘til you mend - and we’re both whole again.
I’ll be your forever friend - ‘til we’re home again….
….Home, ‘til we’re home again,
I’ll be your forever friend, ‘til we’re home again.
SMILE, BREATHE, and BELIEVE. You were always meant to shine.
SMILE, BREATHE, and BELIEVE. You were always meant to shine, shine, shine.
SMILE, BREATHE, and BELIEVE. You were always meant to shine.
